A Wonderful Time in Thailand
I travel to Asia at least twice a year to source gemstones and meet with artisans. It is safe to say that as I touch down in Bangkok I feel like I have arrived at my home from home.
Although many of the mines in this area are now worked out, there are still some rare and exotic gems being mined here. On the fourth day, I visited a black star sapphire mine which was, after a very bumpy ride to get there, was well worth the visit and truly inspiring.
Thailand is home to some of the best artisans I know – I always make time to visit these people and discuss design ideas and any new techniques that may be being practiced. Days pass by, whilst feeling inspired and creative we work on new designs and play with the gemstones deciding the best way in which to capture the fire, brilliance and personality of each individual gem. I also spend at least a day at the Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair walking the aisles; it is hard to resist stopping every few metres to feast your eyes on another wonderful design or a wonderful gemstone.
As I say goodbye to Thailand and its warmth, great food and of course all those massages I move onto Hong Kong. I know that my time here, as always has helped me source and design some magnificent pieces.
I’ll be back, that’s for sure.
